“Which one doesn’t belong?” is a critical thinking pedagogy where students are presented with 4 options and they are to propose which one is the odd one out, and give reasons for their selection. There is no one “right” answer. This pedagogy encourages divergent thinking, a thought process used to generate creative ideas by exploring many possible solutions. Some examples are shown below:
There is a whole website that is devoted to this critical thinking exercise, wodb.ca. As well as supplying pre-made WODB, you can submit your own to share. The site definitely has a maths focus, but this pedagogy can be used in any subject.
Also you can but “WOBD” into google image search, twitter or pinterest for premade ones or inspiration. Better still challenge your students to come up with their own which they then can pitch to the class - a fun homework challenge!
